Program Description

The CG Science Interactive Exhibition Grant offers educators an opportunity to communicate their instructional concepts through innovative online technologies. The program will donate the services of Stage 2 Studios, LLC to the production of an interactive web-based educational module (or modules) valued between $10,000 and $20,000.

These modules may employ 2D and/or 3D modeling and animation, video integration, and interactive elements. For a few examples of the types of projects possible see the lab section of this site.

The goal of the program is not only to extend the educational mission of a single recipient, but also to raise awareness and appreciation for the emerging technologies that can enhance educational offerings.

Eligibility

Following the mission of CG Science, this grant targets small to mid-sized institutions such as science museums and science centers, zoos, and planetariums. Applicants must be a U.S. nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) tax exempt status or a state or local governmental agency or tribal government. Individuals are not eligible. Research projects are excluded (exceptions will be made only if educational outreach is a primary focus of the project).

How to Apply

Please use our online application form to apply for this grant. The application process is open year-round.

The CG Science Interactive Exhibition grant program is unique in that applicants design their own projects. When designing your exhibit concept, consider the theme first. Reviewers will not be looking for technology-centric plans as for plans that present a unique perspective on a specific science education topic.

We believe technology is sufficiently advanced to present limitless new approaches to education. Unfortunately, many content creators and educators alike are stuck in the same methods of communication. Following the initial boom of the web, true innovations have been few and far between, and techniques once considered revolutionary (e.g. virtual tours, 3D viewers, and Flash animations) have become overused and unimaginative. Technology will be an important part of the selection criteria, but the innovative application of technology in science education is more important.

Application Review

Prior to project award nomination, administrators will present the selected applicant with a project plan outlining the scope and nature of the proposed project. The selected applicant must agree to the project plan and the terms at this time. Upon acceptance (in writing) of the project plan and terms, the grant recipient will be publicly announced. This process will ensure the grantee is informed and satisfied with the project plan before initiation of the project.
